Taking screenshots on the Samsung Galaxy Tab

Posted on 29th April 2011 by mobilesfun in Samsung Phones | Tags: , , ,

Taking screenshots on the Samsung Galaxy Tab is a lot easier than the experience I’ve had performing the same on the Galaxy S (unrooted). The latter presently calls for that I run the Android SDK, connect the phone to a pc via a particular USB mode, etc.

Thankfully with the Tab it’s as effortless as on the Wave – press the Back and Power/Standby buttons simultaneously and you need to hear the typical camera shot sound. The resulting image is automatically stored in the Image Gallery in a “ScreenCapture” folder.

1 trick I’ve learnt so far (right after happily snapping away at just about each screen) is that some apps or screens naturally revert to a previous view right away when the Back button has been pressed. One way around this is to hold the Back button down while launching the app/screen then pressing the Power button.

If I uncover anymore beneficial guidelines on this subject I’ll be positive to add them here yours are also welcome.

The idea behind our Samsung Applications competition

Posted on 18th April 2011 by mobilesfun in Samsung Phones | Tags: , , , ,

At Samsung we believe engaging with the community is an integral component of our future. The new connected world we live in is driven by individuals sharing suggestions and their experiences. Our intention with the apps competition was to involve the community, and leverage the power of the collective. Amazing initiatives on the web like Wikipedia show that great things can occur when folks from all walks of life, from all cultures and backgrounds contribute to a single initiative.

We want to offer the most compelling, exciting applications imaginable for our rainbow nation. Assuming that we could come up with the best ideas for the diversity of people who use our goods could be perceived as narrow-minded. As a token of respect for the creativity of the community we have driven this initiative with some fantastic prizes. We are hoping the community responds with extraordinary creativity even though having a great deal of fun. The response to this competition already shows a lot of positivity.

It is feasible to see crowdsourcing as a mechanism for finding suggestions easily, but our aim was to offer a fun platform to engage the creative gears from all walks of life – not just limiting the to the developers of the world. A lot of folks who have no development abilities still have amazing suggestions. Apps right after all should be about the folks making use of them.

Samsung Galaxy S II unveiled at MWC 2011

Posted on 1st February 2011 by mobilesfun in Samsung Phones | Tags: , , ,

On Sunday evening, Samsung Mobile held a press event at Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona, Spain. Right after a series of teasers were released over the last two weeks on the Samsung Unpacked internet site, the web was abuzz over “the next evolution of Galaxy S” as it was touted. Samsung’s JK Shin officially announced the Samsung Galaxy S II, the world’s thinnest smartphone with features that rival desktops from only a few years ago.

If you own a Galaxy S I9000 as I do, you may have wondered what Samsung could possibly add to this stellar range. I thought along the lines of the new device running Gingerbread, a faster application processor (this I got from significant speculation on blogs) and a new look, naturally. It turns out that all of these guesses had been right but are just a scratch on the surface of what this device offers.

The Samsung Galaxy S II is very slim measuring a mere 8.49mm in width and has a bigger screen (four.three”) with Super AMOLED Plus technology, an improved version of the already jaw-dropping quality of Super AMOLED as observed on the I9000. Other noteworthy features are a dedicated Samsung Dual Core Application processor (for those that are not familiar with this terminology, just know that it is really, genuinely quickly!) full High Definition (HD) recording and playback an increased battery capacity at 1650mAh Wi-Fi Direct so it can communicate with devices with neither the want for wires nor an access point and a 8MP camera… with LED flash! (I9000 owners will appreciate that last truth).

This cutting-edge hardware is matched by a strong content offering with all the “Hubs” such as Readers Hub that South African Galaxy Tab and Galaxy S I9000 owners are already utilizing. Samsung has partnered with Cisco and Sybase (a SAP organization) to supply a strong enterprise mobility solutions offering with Cisco WebEx, Sybase Afaria mobile device management, Cisco Mobile (VoIP solutions) and Cisco AnyConnect Virtual Private Network and far more (we’ll cover these topics in full at a later stage).

Galaxy S II features at a glance

  • Android 2.three (Gingerbread)
  • 1GHz Dual Core Processor, 1GB RAM
  • 4.three” WVGA Super AMOLED Plus screen
  • HSPA+ 21Mbps/ HSUPA 5.76Mbps
  • 8MP AF Rear-facing &amp 2MP front-facing camera
  • HD Recording &amp Full HD playback (@30fps)
  • Bluetooth 3., WiFi a/b/g/n
  • Email, Exchange ActiveSync
  • NFC Connectivity (dependent on country)

Uncover full specifications at http://galaxys2.samsungmobile.com/html/specification.html

It must be noted that the specs for this device might differ per region.
